European private equity firm, Cinven, today announces the election of Hugh Langmuir as its Managing Partner. Robin Hall will assume the role of Executive Chairman.
As full time Executive Chairman, Mr Hall will continue to be responsible for the day to day management of the firm and the continued investment and realisation of the current fund (Fund 4).
The new Managing Partner will initially ensure an orderly transition by reducing his involvement in new transactions and winding down his portfolio company board responsibilities. He will then lead the medium and long term strategic development of the business.
Hugh Langmuir joined Cinven in 1991. He established and managed the firm’s Paris office from 2001-2006. Hugh previously worked at Bain & Company and Citi in London and Paris and holds degrees from Edinburgh University, Harvard and London Business School. He has been involved in a number of transactions at Cinven including Amadeus, Aprovia, MediMedia, Coor and Camaïeu.
Robin Hall, Executive Chairman of Cinven, said:
“During my 22 years as Managing Partner of Cinven the firm has grown to become one of the leading players in European private equity. It is now the natural time to bring in a fresh perspective on our future strategy and I’m delighted that someone of Hugh’s experience has agreed to take on the role.
“The timing fits with my longstanding wish to relinquish the Managing Partner role at the age of 60. I will, however, continue to work closely with Hugh and the partners of Cinven on managing the business during the life of Fund 4.”
Hugh Langmuir, Managing Partner of Cinven, said:
“Under Robin’s leadership Cinven has quadrupled its number of investment professionals and assets under management have grown from less than €1bn to over €11bn. I am honoured to assume the role of Managing Partner and I look forward to driving the future growth of the firm.”
